A Bwindi erdőben élő hegyi gorillák egyedszáma jelenleg 500 körülre tehető. A hegyi gorillák természetes élőhelyéül szolgáló erdő szigorúan őrzött, látogatása feltételekhez és engedélyhez kötött, melyet korlátozott számban adnak ki. Some five hundred Bwindi gorillas are estimated to live in this forest. This natural habitat of the mountain gorillas is strictly guarded, the number of visitors is restricted and the issuance of permissions is tied to various conditions. With a high fee being one of them, locals have a vested interest now in safeguarding this species, thus contributing to the slow, but steady growth of the gorilla population. The encounter with the gorillas in their natural habitat, seeing their daily lives, discovering emotional intelligence as they look straight into your eyes was an undescribable experience.
