Etosha Nemzeti Park Namíbiában a maga 22 270 Km2 – ével nagyobb mit a fél Dunántúl. A nagy távolságok mellett még az is nehezíti a fotós dolgát, hogy a park kapuit csak napfelkeltekor nyitják meg és napnyugtakor zárják. Az egyenlítő közelsége pedig garantálja a Nap gyors mozgását, azaz nincs hosszú napfelkelte és naplemente. Csak akkor van esélyed jó fényben fotózni, ha a park területén tudsz szállást szerezni. Ezek a „campek” is kerítéssel védettek és a ki - bejárás ugyancsak napjárásához kötött. Szerencsére egy francia pár elmondta, hogy előző nap az oroszlánoknak sikerült elejteniük egy zsiráfot és nagy eséllyel, míg fel nem falják, a közelében lesznek. Kapunyitáskor elsőként hagytam el a tábort, és a megadott helyen meg is találtam a zsiráf tetemet az oroszlánokkal. Lehet kiábrándító, de Leónk éppen egy keselyűt kerget el ilyen nagy elánnal. Az még talán érdekes lehet, hogy járó motorú autóból nem lehet az ablakkeretre támasztott objektívvel fotózni, mert beremeg a kép. Álló motornál, viszont az ablakot nem lehet felhúzni. Ennek akkor volt jelentősége, mikor a „fékútja” végén Leó úgy másfél méterre a kocsitól a sárga szemeivel belebámult az arcomba.

You only have a chance to take photos in good light if you can get accommodation in the park. These 'camps' are also fenced, and access is subject to sunshine. Fortunately, a French couple told me that the lions had caught a giraffe the day before, and there was a good chance that they would be close by until they ate it. I was the first to leave the camp at the gate's opening and found the giraffe carcass with the lions at the designated spot. Disappointing as it may be, our lion was chasing a vulture away with such vigor. It might also be interesting to note that you can't take photos from a car with a running engine with the lens resting on the window frame because the picture is blurred. However, you can't roll up the window with the machine stopped. This was significant when, at the end of his "braking run," the lion stared into my face with his yellow eyes about a meter and a half from the car.
