A shortfin mako shark glides through the deep blue ocean off the coast of Baja California. The light from the surface playfully stripes its body, and its movements radiate both power and elegance. Although it is one of the fastest predators in the ocean, its future is uncertain: overfishing threatens this species worldwide.
