Amikor nem észlelnek veszélyt, felágaskodnak lakócsöveikből és az áramlattal feléjük sodródó apró élőlényekből táplálkoznak. Fotózásuk rendkívül nehéz, mivel bármilyen számukra idegen vagy veszélyes lényre és zajra azonnal eltűnnek jó időre otthonukban. Állványra tett kábeles távkioldású kamerám mögött vagy 6 méterrel kétszer is órákig hasaltam a fenéken és megpróbáltam nagyon halkan lélegezni.

When feeling safe, eels erect from their buried tubes and feed on tiny creatures shifting towards them in the currents. They are very difficult to photograph, as they withdraw to their shelter to the first sign of any unknown or dangerous being or sound and stay sheltered for a long while. I used a tripod and a remote controller with a six meters long wire, laid on the bottom for hours on two occasions and tried to breathe very quietly.
