Szászavinc és környéke egy ökológiai katasztrófa helyszíne. A közeli rézbányák zagyvizét az 1980-as évek végétől ebbe a völgybe engedték. A zagy szintje a mai napig folyamatosan nő, mivel a bánya még üzemel. A mérgező elegy a völgyben található házakat elárasztja és pusztulásra ítéli, így a lakóknak nincs más lehetőségük, mint egyre magasabbra húzódni a domboldalon, vagy elköltözni.

The area around the village of Szászavinc is the site of an ecological disaster. Since the late 1980s, slurry from nearby copper mines has been discharged into this valley. The slurry level continues to rise as the mine is still in operation. The toxic mixture is flooding and condemning the houses in the valley to decay, leaving residents with no choice but to move further up the hillside or leave.
