Az orrszarvúbogár szaproxilofág, azaz lárvája 2–4 évig fejlődik korhadó fák törzsében, mielőtt kifejlett egyeddé alakulna. Mozdulatlan pihenése lehetővé tette, hogy a fotós aprólékosan tanulmányozza és megörökíthesse.
