Egy gnú teteméből táplálkozott ez a leopárd, amit elég közelről figyeltünk és fényképeztünk. Egyszer csak egy hiéna jelent meg a területen, és jellegzetes, nevető hangjával, valamint fel-alá járkálásával idegesítette a párducot. A nagymacska nem adta könnyen a prédáját: fenyegető testtartásban, szemfogait kivillantva, fújtatva mutatta meg a hiénának, hogy ő az erősebb. Ez mindaddig elegendő is volt, amíg a hiénát nem követte egy társa, majd még egy. Hárman már elegen voltak ahhoz, hogy felkergessék a leopárdot a fára, és végül elvegyék tőle a zsákmányt.

This leopard was eating a gnu carcass which we watched and photographed at rather close range. Suddenly a hyena appeared on the scene and with its characteristic laughing sound, as well as walking up and down, annoyed the panther. The big cat did not relinquish its prey easily. With a threatening posture, flashing its cuspids, hissing, it showed the hyena it was the stronger one. All this was sufficient until the hyena was followed by another, and later another. The three were enough to chase the leopard onto a tree and take the prey away from it in the end.
