Az ősz beköszöntével az európai erdők a gímszarvasbikák bőgésétől hangos. Így van ez a szerencsésebb dán erdőkben is, amik királyi vadászterületek, hiszen itt csak a királyi család tagjai vadászhatnak, emiatt az itt élő szarvasok kisebb eséllyel kerülnek puskavégre. Egy szokatlanul derűs hajnalon egy ilyen erdei tisztáson pillantottam meg ezt a kapitális bikát, miután a hangját követve a sötét rengetegben a közelébe lopóztam. A hűvös, nyirkos levegő, a keletről érkező ellenfénnyel láthatóvá varázsolta a bőgő bika hangját. Némi várakozás után a szarvas a felkelő Nap irányába fordult, és szerencsés testtartást vett fel. Így a szarvas sötét teste a világos fűvel, a kiokádott pára világos foltja a háttér sötétjével képez kontrasztot.

With the onset of autumn, the forests of Europe are alive with the bellowing of the roaring bull deer. This is also true in the more fortunate Danish forests, which are royal hunting grounds, where only members of the royal family are allowed to hunt, so the deer are less likely to be shot. In one of these forest clearings on an unusually clear morning, I caught sight of this capitular bull, following his call as I stalked close to him through the dark undergrowth. The cool, damp air, with the backlight from the east, made the bull's bellowing sound visible. After some waiting, the stag turned towards the rising sun and assumed a fortunate posture. Thus, the dark body of the stag contrasts with the light grass, the light patch of mist with the dark background.
