A meglepő formájú szarvas agancsgomba még az erősebb fagyoknak is ellenáll. Szarvas agancsgombával az erdő korhadó tuskóin, fatönkjein egész évben, így akár hófoltok között is találkozhatunk például a Börzsöny hegységben. A 3-5 cm magas kifejlett gombák felső vége többszörösen, agancsszerűen elágazik. Mintha miniatűr szarvasok leselkednének a mohaerdőben. Csodálatos látványt nyújtanak ellenfényben, vakuval. Mintha a tél dermedt ujjai elevenednének meg.

The surprisingly shaped stag's horn fungus can withstand even the hardest frosts. This fungus can be found on decaying forest stumps and logs all year round, even in snow patches, for example, in the Börzsöny mountains. The upper end of the 3-5 cm high adult mushrooms has multiple antler-like branches. They look like miniature deer lurking in the moss forest. They are a wonderful sight in the backlight, with a flash as if the frozen fingers of winter are coming to life.
